We all know that water in wires and cables is a very serious problem. Sometimes you think you have done a good job of waterproofing, but the wires and cables still get water. So how did the wires and cables get water? Next, the editor will tell you the reasons and countermeasures for water entering wires and cables.

1. Storage: Seal both ends of newly purchased wires and cables with plastic sealing sleeves. However, after using it for a period of time, the remaining pieces are wrapped in plastic paper and tied with string. The sealing performance is not good. Over time, moisture will penetrate into the cable.
2. Cable laying: When laying cables, sometimes the cable heads wrapped in plastic paper are immersed in water to allow water to enter the cables; when drawing tubes are threaded, sometimes the outer sheath breaks.
3. After laying: The cable head was not manufactured in time, causing the unsealed cable port to be exposed to the air for a long time, or even immersed in water, causing a large amount of water vapor to enter the cable.
Now that we know the reason why wires and cables have become flooded, is there any way to rescue them? As far as the editor knows, there is no remedy, only prevention. The following is to prevent and reduce water intrusion of wires and cables. The editor has several suggestions and methods.
1. The cable head should seal the sawed-off cable end. Whether stacking or laying, special cable glands must be used to avoid moisture penetration.
2. Cable heads should be made promptly after the wires are laid. Strengthen the management of the cable head manufacturing process. Once the cable gets water, the cable head will often break early. Therefore, if the cable head is well manufactured, the entire life of the cable can be extended.
3. For long cables, select several long cables from the cable branch box, each about 3 kilometers long. For this type of cable, select one or two cable breakout box cables in addition to the intermediate connector. Once one of the wires and cables gets water, it will spread to other wires and cables.
The methods for peeling waste wires and cables include the following:
1. Process peeling method: This method uses manual peeling, which has low power, high cost and poor operating environment for workers;
2. Incineration method: The incineration method is a traditional method that burns the plastic outer covering of discarded cables and then recovers the copper in it, but the smoke pollution is also very serious. At the same time, the surface of the copper wire is severely oxidized during the incineration process, reducing the metal recovery rate. This method has been strictly banned by various governments.
3. Mechanical stripping method: Use cable stripping machine for processing. This method still requires manual operation, is semi-mechanized, has high labor intensity and low power, and is only suitable for processing thick diameter cables.
4. Chemical method: The technology of chemical method to treat waste cables was proposed in the 1990s. Some countries have already discussed it, and China also discussed it during the Eighth Five-Year Plan. This method has a big disadvantage: the waste liquid produced cannot be treated and has a great impact on the environment, so it is rarely used;
5. Freezing method: This method was also proposed in the 1990s. Using liquid nitrogen as the refrigerant, the used cables become brittle at extremely low temperatures, and then the plastic sheath breaks and vibrates to separate from the copper wire segments. During the Eighth Five-Year Plan, China also established a research project. However, the disadvantage of this method is its high cost and difficulty in industrial production.
